MoonPay Gets Dutch EMI License to Issue Euro Stablecoins

MoonPay Gets Dutch EMI License to Issue Euro Stablecoins

MoonPay has secured an Electronic Money Institution (EMI) license from the Dutch Central Bank, opening the door for the company to issue regulated euro-denominated stablecoins across Europe.

The approval also allows MoonPay to offer payment accounts and related services, giving the crypto payments firm a stronger position in Europe’s growing stablecoin market.

MoonPay Gets Approval for Stablecoin Issuance

In a recent announcement, MoonPay stated that it received the EMI license from De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) on September 8, 2026. The approval gives the company the regulatory ability to issue euro-denominated stablecoins while expanding its payment services for consumers and businesses.

MoonPay said the license gives it “broader options from the Netherlands” for building stablecoin and payment products across Europe.

The approval is important because MoonPay already holds a MiCA Crypto-Asset Service Provider (CASP) authorization from the Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets.

The new EMI license adds regulated payment and electronic-money capabilities to its existing crypto framework.

Why the EMI License Matters for MoonPay

The biggest change is that MoonPay can now move beyond crypto buying and selling into regulated payment accounts and stablecoin issuance.

The company can offer payment accounts to consumers and businesses and use the new setup to develop card and payment products. The license is also passportable across the European Economic Area, allowing MoonPay to provide these services across the region from its Dutch base.

That gives MoonPay more control over the connection between traditional money and digital assets, rather than relying entirely on outside banking partners.

MoonPay Targets Europe’s Euro Stablecoin Market

MoonPay said it plans to build further around payment accounts, stablecoin issuance and card products in the coming months.

The company is now the third Netherlands-based firm to hold both a MiCA CASP authorization and an EMI license within the same entity. MoonPay says it is the first of those companies to combine both licenses with open-loop stablecoin issuance capabilities.

The new EMI approval now adds the key payment layer needed to expand its stablecoin plans.

For MoonPay, the focus is clear, build regulated euro stablecoins and connect them directly to payment products across Europe.
